Any tips to draw noses? Especially front šŸ˜‚

atalienart:

Go to youtube and enter ā€œIstebrak Noseā€ She explains everything very well and shows how to draw a realistic nose.Ā Aaron Blaise shows how to draw it more cartoony from different angles. You can also check Sinix. (They’re all on youtube) I’m afraid I don’t really know what I could possibly add to those tutorials as they cover pretty much everything you should know about noses. They’re video tutorials so it’s easier to understand what, how and why. Hope it helps!

Your art is so natural and expressive, I love it! I was wondering how you go about cuddles?? Or just fitting two people together so it’s not awkward or stiff looking, it’s something I’ve struggled with but look to your art to see how you solve it. I was wondering about your thought process when organizing a drawing like that (I hope the English is okay!)

Thanks! ^^ When I read your first question I thought you’re asking about real cuddles :’) Anyway, this is how I go about it, sometimes I alredy have a pose in mind, but then it’s just trying until I get it right. Sometimes I use references. But this technique is really relaxing, I love to draw this way šŸ˜€ Hope it helps!

Tbh nothing I can say can help as much as looking at anatomy books and references. That being said, some general rules I follow are:

1) start with a lopsided oval (something that has the movement you’re trying to evoke with the face you’ll draw.)

2) roughly divide it in half horizontally. This will be where your pupils are.

3) divide it into thirds vertically. This will decide where your eye sits and your mouth ends.

4) carve out a nose and chin. dimensions will vary depending on the character/style you’re after.

5) your ears generally are as tall as your nose, so you can fill that in, and connect the inner ear to the chin to create a jawline.

6) you connect the base of the skull (behind ear) and the jaw to a neck and add in hair.Ā

This is very stylized, so it’s not an exact science, but sticking to these general proportions should help! Here is an index I made of art resources you can use, as well.

Art advice question! I’ve been trying to practice drawing faces from more angles, but the profile or a 3/4 from the back is what kills me! I always have trouble with the mouth in those, Idk what it is, even if I try and draw in a super simplified way and only do a line it sill somehow manages to look wrong… any tips?

I don’t know how to help you when I can’t see your drawings. Maybe this can be useful:

Ā As I said, it’s hard to fix something when you don’t even see it. Use references, draw from life, it’s the best was to understand and learn things.

So you might be saying: Lion why a guide on drawing black people? Well young blood it’s because a lot of people cant…seem…to draw…black people..Amazing I know.Ā

Racist (caricatures) portrayals of black people have been around forever, and to this day people can’t seem to draw black people like they are human. If your artwork resembles any of the above even remotely your artwork is racist and offensive. If you try to excuse that as a stylistic choice you’re not only a terrible artist, but racist too!!! Congrats.

Whitewashing is also a problem. A lot of people refuse to draw black features on canonly black characters. While this example isn’t colored, lightening the skin-tone of a character is also considered whitewashing. So lets start with features!

image

Now all black people have different noses thats a no-brainer, but black noses tend to have flatter bridges, and wider nostrils.

Please stay from triangular anime noses and small button noses.

Your drawings should not depict black people with abnormally large noses. (Especially if you do not draw other characters this way)

image

If you feel like the way you draw lips on black characters is offensive or resembles a caricature,it probably does and you should change it. ABSOLUTELY AVOID PLACING LIPS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FACE.Ā

Hair is so diverse! Please get used to drawing braids, locs, kinks and coils! If you can learn to draw ringlets and long waves you can learn how to draw black hairstyles.

Add clips! Learn how to draw baby-hairs and never be afraid to add color Pinterest and Google are free my dudes! Also try using square brushes for blocking in coils.

OK THAT’S ALL YOU GUYS

long hair is notĀ ā€œgirlyā€

the same way short hair is notĀ ā€œmanlyā€

hair has no gender

hair is just hair

&as long as you’re not disrespecting a culture with the way you do it

you keep on doing you

Its like someone looked into my brain and decided to make a photo set based on men I would find so overwhelmingly attractive I couldn’t look directly at them if I met them in person
